Inter-matter - Butoh dance and voice workshop

Instructor | Ohjaaja: Josephine Grundy

Venue | Paikka: Ylioppilasteatteri studio, Aleksanterinkatu 23

A short workshop exploring the interrelationship between our physical beings and other beings or elements around us through the medium of sound and voice, touching on themes such as plasticity, musicality, dynamics, vibration, resonance and reflection.

We will work on various techniques based on breathing exercises, relaxation, posture, stretching, and the use of mental imagery. We will experiment with voice projection, becoming aware of the different ways to occupy space with our physical presence and extending that awareness to sound production. We will explore the idea of the body as an object, as a resonating chamber, and as a channel for transmitting vibrations.

Butoh dance seeks to reveal each person's authentic movement; the purpose of this workshop is to explore, through voice and sound, how our dance can fully resonate with the elements and beings around us.
