Butoh foundation
Instructor | Ohjaaja: Tashi Iwaoka
Venue | Paikka: Ylioppilasteatteri studio, Aleksanterinkatu 23
In this workshop, we work on the most fundamental element of his practice or Butoh in general - the body. When he refers to ‘the body’ that doesn’t mean only the physical one. It naturally contains psychological, mental, energetical and also spiritual ones.
Having said that, we do need to train through the physical body.
Iwaoka believes having a good foundation will help people find and explore their own ways of Butoh.
Tashi Iwaoka is a Turku based performance artist/mover/Butoh practitioner.
After his first Butoh experiences in 1997 with Kazuo Ohno and Kim Itoh in Japan, Iwaoka practised Butoh based bodywork for over 10 years. In 2020 he began searching for what his butoh is extensively and has been deepening what Butoh means.
Since 1997 he has attended workshops and seminars by Butoh artists such as Tadashi Endo, Carlotta Ikeda, Masaki Iwana, Sankai Juku, Natsu Nakajima, Atsushi Takenouchi, Yumiko Yoshioka and more.
