Corpse of Rose/薔薇の死体

Dance | Tanssi: Ken Mai

This piece is a dance piece that I wanted to try out with gothic/metal rock and my personal inner self. The theme of the corpse of the rose is poetic, romantic and beautiful, and at the same time I wanted to express the contrast between life and death. The rose dances between life and death with passion, and with the eternal Divine, the body decays and becomes ashes, and is re-nurtured by Mother Earth, resonating with the dark mantra of the universe, and the scent of death and ecstasy become one and are illuminated, floating in the space like a soul.

For me, Butoh is life itself, and I feel that it is about touching the soul and engaging the consciousness in the universal realm. For the past many years, I was born, entered society, encountered the body and art, after practicing in gymnastics, martial arts, rock drums, theater, modern dance, shiatsu, zen and yoga in India, I met Kazuo Ohno and started Butoh. I have tried to cherish the present as the dance of life, from the past to the future, but the body and the universe itself are always living in a state of destruction and regeneration of flow. I feel that these phenomena live with Butoh. And it goes without saying that the experience of coming into contact with people and cultures from over 40 countries has certainly liberated my own consciousness and bound mind. I am grateful for this opportunity.
