Closer to my undisclosed Desire
Dance | Tanssi: Elizabeth Damour
Butoh dance expresses that human beings are not accustomed to the order and rhythm of existence. The Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa wrote ‘Life impairs the expression of life’.
The solo is inspired by the lost ones. Samuel Beckett’s universes make sense with the essence of dance emerging from in-between worlds, where fictional worlds are presumed real…
The spareness of Beckett’s worlds addresses a language that has always been there, a language now lost, an elusive language emerging from hidden layers. It is hard work to decipher our Desire since it stands often unrevealed in the compulsion for the essence of movements, for stillness…
The derelict connects to butoh dance where all senses and time could be abolished in attrition, in ephemeral and repeating circles.
Elizabeth Damour is a performer trained at the Graham Contemporary Dance School in London and was involved in companies or productions across Europe, Brazil and Japan. In 2000, attending Kim Manri’s workshops in Osaka, led her to butoh experiences with Atsushi Takenouchi, Katsura Kan, Gyohei Zaïtsu and Maki Watanabe to name a few.
Her inspiration comes from poetry, myths and narratives about humanity issues. She is a Certified Therapist in psychosomatic and a Movement and Art-Therapist. She runs workshops and lectures about creativity and trauma connecting to specific people like disabled artists in Japan and to students in design schools.
